Design and art direct the inaugural issue of the magazine

Challenge

The team from Winning were looking to create a high-quality lifestyle magazine that represented luxury and distinction.

Solution

When developing the magazine we decided on a publication that was relatively minimalist in its approach; spreads were clean and elegant – embracing white space and striking imagery, while we limited key design elements. The colour palette was restricted primarily to black and white, while only a handful of fonts were utilised throughout.

As art director I was responsible for designing the bulk of the magazine. The design process was collaborative with the editorial and Winning teams, ensuring that all parties were on the same page with the creative.

*Small Disclaimer: whilst I refined the magazine cover, it isn’t my design – it’s here simply for context.

SECTION DIVIDERS

The magazine was broken up into five key sections, each of which were fronted with abstract imagery, a pull out quote, and a section-specific content listing.

CONCEPTS & DEVELOPMENT

Early in its development the target demographic for the magazine slightly shifted. These are my earlier concepts for the magazine, which incorporate more design elements, more colours, and alternative cover options.
